AnnaSophia Robb Debuts as the New “Carrie Bradshaw” as Sex and The City Prequel Nears.
The Carrie Diaries is the next installment from author Candace Bushnell, the person who created Carrie Bradshaw. The Carrie Diaries is a prequel, and I smell a hit.
The only drawback I can see is that the pilot is running on CW. I’m not sure how ABC, NBC and CBS passed on this one. The selection of Anna Sophia Robb is spot on. She’s got a thing about her that appeals to both men and women of all ages. That’s a hard “thing” to pull off. Her biggest gig to date has been her role in “Soul Surfer”. She played shark attack victim Bethany Hamilton who survived a shark attack losing a limb and still going on to win a National Surf title.
The executive producer for the Carrie Diaries, obviously saw what we see with Robb, Amy B Harris describes her selection of AnnaSophia for the role as Carrie,
“When AnnaSophia Robb walked into the room, we knew we had found her. Her grace, intelligence, sense of fun and her empathetic nature make her the perfect girl to bring our young Carrie to life.”
“The fact that she loves a gorgeous pair of heels doesn’t hurt either.”
The show will focus on young Carrie Bradshaw when she was in High School. It will be a modern day Clueless with just more fashion and off the wall styling. The show will also introduce Carrie’s little sister, played by Stefania Own. The pilot will take place before the characters of Charlotte, Samantha, and Miranda meet Carrie, so Carrie will have two new Besties played by Katie Findlay and Ellen Wong.
The other thing about High School shows, are they have a limited life. If the show does well, Carrie could be a 22 year old stuck in High School. Robb is already 18, and finished with High School herself.
