Melisa and Joey – ABC Family Sitcom Continues to Dominate Ratings

Melissa-and-Joey

Are you watching? Melisa & Joey?

If not, you might be missing a decent show.  Just ask everyone else who is watching it.

I dismissed this show almost immediately however I seem to be clearly in the minority.  Melissa & Joey are killing the ratings game.  This past Wednesday it was the #1 cable show at the 8 O’clock timeslot in the highly coveted 18 – 34 age range and was the No. 2 scripted cable show in females 12-34.

To further emphasize the ratings crush it’s was the 8 O’clock winner 10 weeks in a row and the 2nd place female 12-34 winner 7 weeks straight.

The show, which is into its 2nd season, stars Joey Lawrence who is also the executive producer.  His co-star is Melissa Hart who plays a maturing former party girl who grew up in politics and who is now a politician herself.  With even more dysfunctional siblings, A sister in jail and a brother in law who fled the country, Mellisa is stuck taking care of her niece and nephew.  In a “Tony Danza”, like move, Joey Lawrence is desperate for a job and moves in as the “Manny” to help Melissa juggle career and family and possibly start a family of her own.

The show comes on ABC Family with many full episodes from season 1 still available online.

If anything this show is an indication that the family comedy drama does not need to have the complexity of “Modern Family”, but with the right formula, very little talent and some luck, you could hit ratings nirvana.

The show is in its second season.

It’s really no surprise that Melissa and Joey is doing so well. They have charm, familiarity, and a good storyline to give the show an edge. This week’s episode is no different and it even throws another complication in just for fun. Melissa and Joey work well together and I’m sorry I didn’t start watching sooner. I’ve got this show on my timers list on my Hopper DVR. It’s great because I can record this show and watch other stuff at the same time. It came with three tuners for functionality and I take advantage of it. A Dish co-worker told me about the Hopper a few months back and once I was done testing it, I got my own. The next few episodes of season two will be pretty interesting, especially next week because supposedly Joey is marrying his girlfriend turned fiancée!
