Matthew McConaughey finally sat down for an interview and answered the questions that were on everyone’s mind.  Since he began his weight loss, public concern for his health has increased.  Much to everyone’s relief, he has announced that he’s done losing weight and filming for the highly anticipated project has begun.

The role he is playing will be a character who is stricken with HIV in the late 80’s by the name of Ron Woodroof .  The movie entitled The Dallas Buyers Club will have McConaughey as the lead anchored by Jennifer Garner and Jared Leto.

JUST HOW MUCH WEIGHT DID MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY LOSE?

That’s the million dollar question.  At 6 feet tall, and 43 years old, McConaughey now weighs a startling 143 lbs.  He has lost a total of 38 lbs.  His Body Mass Index is 19.4; underweight is considered 18.5 so technically he’s in the safe range, but not visually.  Visually he looks like he can pass out at any moment.  He rated his energy level at about 70 percent of his normal range.

WAS LOSING THE WEIGHT TOUGH?

McConaughey provided insight to how weight loss works.  He basically explained what no one really wants to hear, it comes down to diet.  He said at each 10 lbs interval he would plateau, 170 lbs, 160, 150 lbs……That’s when diet comes into play.  He says your body reaches a point that even if you are doing tons of cardio, what you eat and how much makes all the difference.  He explains,

I’m doing cardio but I’ll tell you what, the more I’ve learned is – and I think it comes with age too – is it’s 90 percent diet.  It’s 90 percent amount and then what you’re eating because right now I’m not losing any more weight if I burn 1,500 calories, two hours of cardio in an afternoon, or if I don’t.  It doesn’t matter.  It’s a matter of how much I eat or how little I eat.

He also discussed shrinkage.  What people who are trying to lose weight fail to realize is that when you lose weight your stomach and organs shrink as well.  So when fat people complain that they will be starving for the rest of their lives, this is not the case.  Your stomach will shrink along with your waist size and you will not be nearly as hungry or be capable of eating the same things that you ate before.

The movie shoot will take place over 5 weeks, of which started on Monday. McConaughey already has his dream meal picked out and he describes it in mouth watering detail,

“I will have some 70 percent beef, 30 percent fat ground beef, maybe a half pound cheeseburger with another three types of cheese. I’ll prepare it all and I’ll make sure that it takes three hours just to prepare.  I’m going to have buns with butter on both sides, toasted and grilled.  I’m going to melt the cheese on the top bun, Hellmann’s Real Mayonnaise. I want kosher dill pickles sliced nice and thin, diced white onions, slightly grilled until they get almost hard, and some thin jalapeno slices.  And then I’m just going to sit back and let the [expletive] just drop on the ground.”

I’m ready to eat after writing that.  Much to my girlfriend’s dismay, my stomach hasn’t shrunk a bit and now it’s empty.   Enjoy the clip, and thanks to hitfix for doing their thing!
