68 Year Old Bobby Womack

Legendary Singer Bobby Womack Reveals That he Has Been Diagnosed with Early Alzheimer’s.

The 68 year old musical legend revealed his diagnosis only after a public memory lapse.  The musician forgot lyrics to songs that he wrote as well as the names of the people that he collaborated with on some of his hits.

Womack revealed the diagnosis during the Giles Peterson radio show that is broadcast on BBC 6.  Womack was co-hosting the show when he revealed his condition,

“The doctor said, ‘You have signs of Alzheimer’s, He said it’s not bad yet, but it’s going to get worse.”

Womack had a busy year in 2012, some good things and some not so good.  He was hospitalized with pneumonia last year as well as undergoing surgery for colon cancer.  Amidst all these health issues he still managed to crank out an album of new material, his first since 1994.

There has been an outcry of support for the Rock and Roll hall of Famer and to that Womack released a statement to his fans,

Thanks to all of my fans for their prayers and well wishes. I truly appreciate and can feel your love. With the support of many good doctors, my family, and all of my wonderful fans, I will continue to write and perform and bring the good music to the people for as long as I can.

– With much love, Bobby Womack.
