Former ‘Bachelorette’ Star Opens Up

Meredith Phillips was the “Bachelorette” for the ABC show back in 2004. The former model is now 39-years-old, and trying to get her life back on track after a long battle with alcoholism. Meredith has managed to keep her struggles secret for several years now, but she decided to finally open up about her problem to People Magazine a couple of weeks ago…

“For years I’d wake up every day feeling like I was hit by a truck. But I realized I was going to kill myself. There wasn’t another path for me other than to stop. I’m finally starting to live my life again.” she told the magazine after announcing that she has been sober for more than 150 days. However, she admits that at her worst, she was gulping down 20+ bottles of wine a week and blacking out almost everyday.

She also explained that her battle with alcoholism only got worse after she broke up with Ian McKee, the winner of The Bachelorette,

“It began with a lot of ‘Sunday Fundays.’ I would split a bottle of champagne with friends at brunch, then move on to wine. My lowest point was when I realized my mother was in a hospital bed dying of cancer and I was at her house, drinking myself to death. I just didn’t care.”

However, like we said above, she has been sober for over 150 days. She’s now married to her high school sweetheart and things are finally looking up for the reality TV star. But, before she officially put all of this behind her, she went on ‘Good Morning America’ this week to clear up a few things. Phillips wanted to make it clear that she does not blame The Bachelorette for her drinking problems.

“It was my choice to drink it and how much I consumed.” she said. However, she does admit that she thinks it is way too easy to get alcohol on the show, “It shouldn’t be prevalent all the time. It shouldn’t be available, you know? I mean, it was just too easy.”

Well, duh! I’m sure alcohol is what makes that show! Alcohol and hot people making out, that’s the only reason people watch. It certainly has nothing to do with love. I mean, how many people have actually stayed together after the show? One or two? I’m not sure, I don’t watch the show. What do you expect from me? Facts? Reliable information? Pfft! Get real.
