Melissa Rivers Gives Another Update On Joan Rivers, Confirms She Is Still On Life Support

Joan Rivers’ daughter, Melissa Rivers, updated everyone on her mother’s condition yesterday, and the news is still not good. As you all know, the 81-year-old entertainer was undergoing a routine throat procedure last week when she tragically entered cardiac and respiratory arrest.

She was rushed to the hospital where she was put into a medically induced coma. The legendary comedienne has fans all over the world. Melissa thanked everyone for their support in her latest statement.

“On behalf of my mother and our family, we are extremely grateful for all the love and support we’ve received. At this time she does remain on life support. I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers.”

The medical website WebMD (otherwise known as the, “What? I thought it was just a cold! How did I get Lupus?” site) had an interesting Q&A session on Joan’s medically induced coma.

When asked why doctors would use this technique after cardiac arrest, Dr. Bradley Flansbaum explained the following

“To put it in simple terms, if you think of the body as a big machine that requires oxygen and blood, when you slow the body down, it requires less oxygen and less energy than it would normally require. If there’s an injury and something happens, like the heart stops, the brain doesn’t get enough blood and enough oxygen. So the cells and all the machinery in the brain can become damaged. By lowering the temperature of the brain, it is hoped you can minimize the damage that would occur.”

Everyone is still hoping for the best, but it’s not looking good. Let’s continue to hope for a miracle.
