Kate Walsh and Tim Daly Are both Leaving Private Practice, One Quits and One gets Fired

First she left Grey’s Anatomy now she’s leaving Private Practice – Kate Walsh is done.

The shows sixth season will be her last.  That leaves her with just 13 episodes left.

She was ready to leave last season but ABC did what they needed to do to keep her around. Can we say “$$intense$$ negotiations”.  If you remember, her character was in the airport headed off to TV never land.  In fact the show was written as a finale, just to everyone’s surprise, it was back.  So far it’s not clear whether the show will continue or not, because it was built around Walsh’s character, however there are now more than enough story lines and deep characters to continue the series.

Tim Daly who plays Peter Wilder will also not be returning.  He informed fans via twitter that he will not be appearing on the show.  Not even on the last 13 episodes.

He hit twitter to tell his fans that it was over.

“Wonderful fans of PPP. Shonda informed my agent today that Pete wont be returning for season 6. It was a great 5 yrs. R.I.P. Pete Wilder.”

Rhimes has not yet made any public comments on either characters  departure.

I’m not sure if Pete and Rhimes had a good relationship or not but when Lexie and Teddy left the show Rhimes left a heartfelt statement for Tim Daly….nothing.  Now with her new show “Scandal” Shonda has 3 hit one hour shows, she can definitely end one. Time for Taye Diggs and friends to get their resumes updated. (55)

Trump Allows Transgendered Jenna Talackova to Compete in the Miss Universe Pagent, but She wants an Apology.

[sam id="2" codes="true"]

Jenna Talackova, the transgendered beauty queen has now been cleared to compete in the Miss Universe pageant.  I still can’t believe it, but Donald Trump has reversed the decision.

Apparently the reversal wasn’t enough because Jenna hired attorney Gloria Allred! Gloria and Jenna set up a press conference where she publicly attacked the Donald Trump organization for how he handled the entire situation.  She specifically addresses Donald’s statement that Jenna could compete if she met

“the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada and the standards established by other international competitions.”

Jenna was not satisfied with being allowed to compete and was not happy with the wording,

“I am a woman. I was devastated .. I have never asked for any special consideration, I only wanted to compete. I saw the statement by Mr Trump’s representative and I found it quite confusing,

I wish Mr Trump would just say in plain words whether or not I would be allowed to compete and, if I win, whether I will be allowed to represent Canada in the Miss Universe competition.”

Gloria then added fuel to the fire, which she can do very, very well, Allred stated,

“She did not ask Mr Trump to prove that he is a naturally born man. Or to see the photos of his birth to view his anatomy to prove that he was male,”

Insulting Trump is not the best way to go because Trump has a way with words and can verbally go toe to toe with the best of them.  He decided to give Gloria a little taste.  Trump stated,

“I did not know that she had a lawyer and especially Gloria Allred.  In fact, had I known it was Gloria Allred, I probably would not have reversed my decision because, you know, Gloria is easy to beat.”

Trump proceeds to give Jenna some advice from Uncle Donald,

I think Jenna should focus on running up in Canada and seeing how she does in Canada and then, if she does well, she has a chance to become what many, many young women all over the world want to be and that’s Miss Universe.  That should be her focus.”

Donald also made it clear that he had no intention of apologizing,

“There will be no apology whatsoever,  If (Talackova) can compete that’s great. If she doesn’t want to compete because she doesn’t think she’ll win, that’s fine. I couldn’t care less.”

Donald then address Allred’s comments about his manhood,

“I think Gloria would be very, very impressed with me.”

Jersey Shore Season 5 Sneak Preview – Ratings are Still High so Why Not!

Honestly, I really forgot that they filmed another Season of Jersey Shore.  I fizzled out in Italy.  I’m always “in” like the first 5 or 6 episodes and then I get sick of the Ronnie & Sam drama and phase out, then usually catch up on the marathon.

I wasn’t the only one who fizzled as the ratings for the Season 4 Finale were lower than that of Season 3 but there were some extenuating factors.  Season 4 ended in October amongst some first class broadcast shows, which they crushed.

RATINGS ARE STILL GOOD

The season finale scored a 3.7 for adults 18-49, smashing the 10:00 PM competition.  “Private Practice” had a 2.3 and “The mentalist” had a 2.5.  To put it in even more in perspective, “Grey’s Anatomy” which came on earlier but on the same night scored a 3.6 rating.

For a cable show, that’s ridiculous.  That’s why these guys continue to film seasons and get PAID.

HOW MUCH DID THE JERSEY SHORE CAST GET FOR SEASON 5

Rumors had it that they negotiated a slightly higher contract then Season 4 which was $100K per episode.  They typically film 13 seasons so they will earn well over 1 million dollars each, for the Season.  This doesn’t include endorsements, night club appearances and spin offs.  That’s a Good “Situation”.

Here is a sneak peak of the trailer from season 5.

American Idol and the NFL battle it out for the costliest Commercial spots on TV.

American Idol and the NFL battle it out for the costliest Commercial spots on TV

How do you judge how good a TV show really is?  Advertising dollars.  Money talks!

The NFL is now catching up to a Simon Cowell-less “American Idol”.  For a 30 second commercial on “Idol” it will cost you anywhere from $468,100 to $502,900.  An average ad for Sunday Night Football will cost you $512,367.

Then how is “Idol” the winner?  Easy – the cost of the spots on Idol go up as the show progresses.  When it’s down to the finale spots go for as much as $640,000.

The trend is now that shows that are watched live get a premium for obvious reasons.  American idol, X-factor and Football are shows that lose their value if not watched live therefore advertisers are willing to pay top dollar.

As shows become available on Hulu or “On Demand” through your cable company, their ad revenue begins to tumble.  Back in 2007 – 2008 30 second ads during “Grey’s Anatomy” were going for $419,00, now they are going for less than half that at $203,078, while I’m sure salaries have risen.

Desperate Housewives have fallen victim to the same deflation, in 2006 they were at $394,000 now they are hovering around $149,556.

When stars are negotiating salaries they sometime don’t consider that ad revenues can drop by 50%.

THE TOP TEN MOST EXPENSIVE 30 SECOND COMMERCIAL SPOTS FALL 2011

  1. Sunday Night Football: $512,367
  2. X Factor Wednesday: $283,034
  3. X Factor Thursday: $283,034
  4. Glee: $267,141
  5. Family Guy $264,912
  6. The Simpsons: $254,260
  7. Two and a Half Men: $252,418
  8. Modern Family: $249,388
  9. Dancing with the Stars Monday: $233,482
  10. Dancing with the Stars Tuesday: $216,703

Greys just falls out of the top 10.

Below is a breakdown day for day, you will see that Sunday is still King, Thursday rules the weeknights and you can clearly see that when your favorite show gets moved to Friday, it’s “Nighty-Night!”
