Oprah’s OWN network Hit with a Sexual Harrasment Lawsuit
Oprah is getting hit with a little Women’s lib. Her network is being sued for sex and pregnancy discrimination.
Carolyn Hommel said that she was brought on board in 2010 as senior director of scheduling and acquisitions. She received a good performance review and was told that her career path was leading right to a VP role. Soon after, due to pregnancy related issues she was forced to take a medical leave and OWN hired a temp to take over her duties. The temporary employee begin to absorb more and more of Hommel’s role to the point where Hommel was excluded from important meetings.
Just one month after having her baby, Hommel was laid off. Then OWN had the audacity to tell her that she could re-apply for the Vice president’s position and was not given the job.
Hommel’s insists that her demotion and subsequent layoff was a direct result of her medical leave and pregnancy.
If anyone should know better than to mess with a pregnant woman and her job it’s Oprah. At least wait until they are back for a few months before you give them the pink slip.
OWN has yet to comment on the suit.

Oprah Actually Monitors her Twitter! She replys to tweeter Who Said She Looked “Old As Hell”.
In case you thought Oprah was too rich to read her tweets….on the contrary. She is so rich that she has time to read her tweets!
Oprah who is a huge twitter fan and has over 16 million followers, often in the middle of her show can be found, yelling out, “TWEET TWEET TWEET!”
That’s exactly what one of her viewers did. They tweeted and it was not so nice. Identified as Kp1lady, she took to twitter and basically said what she was thinking, and that was the fact that Oprah was looking kind of old.
Oprah, who apparently monitors her twitter unexpectedly answered her back. The exchange went something like this:
With 16 million followers this has brought kp1lady some unexpected fame and 100s of retweets and comments including getting stalked by the NY Post.
@kp1lady We are the real NY Post TV section. Would like to intervu about yr Oprah experience. Pls folo us and we can talk.

I’m not sure why Oprah even bothered to reply back. Feeding the trolls is not a good look, and if anyone should know better it’s Oprah. A comment that would have gone unnoticed has now been retweeted over 140 million times and is now a post being 1000’s of blogs.
This is the “negative” Oprah affect. At the end of the day, she’s still Oprah. When I asked her if she cared about any of this, Oprah was like,

Oprah Lands Another Huge Interview. This time it’s Lance Armstrong.
Oprah does it again. Lance has agreed to give his first interview after the doping scandal to Oprah who will feature him on a special 90 minute episode of Oprah’s Next Chapter.
Oprah will conduct the interview as she does most of the guests on “Next Chapter” at Lance Armstrong’s residence in Texas. The mogul took to twitter for a little self-promotion,

And why not? That interview will be huge, and the ratings will follow. Recent press releases hint that Lance will finally be admitting his guilt and if Oprah can capture this, it will be a ratings bonanza. Even if she can’t it will be a ratings bonanza. If you don’t have OWN, no need to worry, she will be streaming this one LIVE on Oprah.com. Cycling is a worldwide issue and literally the world will want to hear what Lance has to say.
Oprah’s Next Chapter has been leading the OWN network on the comeback trail. OWN closed out 2012 with double digit year over year ratings gains across all key demographics in prime time seeing and increase of 32% gain. Oprah’s next chapter has hit #1 in its time period across all cable channels multiple times since is premiere. The Kardashians, Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Rihanna…and the list goes on.
The Lance Armstrong interview will be aired and live streamed on Thursday January 17th from 9:00 to 10:30 PM.

Oprah Gets into the Organic Business. Mogul Files Trademarks as “Oprah’s Organics” Readies for Launch
If you thought Oprah was done with the launch of her channel OWN then you are all wrong. According to the US Patent and Trademark Organization several applications have been filed on Oprah’s behalf and they all indicate that Oprah is getting into the Organic Food and Health and Beauty Aid sector.
The filing for “Oprah’s Organics” indicate that the products can include such items as bath soap, sunscreen, massage oils, and hair products. On the food side, it covers salad dressings, frozen vegetables, soups, beverages and snack dips.
Applications were also submitted for “Oprah’s Farm” and “Oprah’s Harvest” where reports suggest that these will be slated for a possible beverage and catering service.
A spokesperson for the mogul was able to shed a little light on part of Winfrey’s plan,
‘The trademarks were filed for Oprah’s farm on Maui to enable the farm to grow and distribute produce on Maui and throughout the Hawaiian Islands.’
This will just add to the list of hustles under the Oprah empire. Besides her own entire television station, holding a stake in Dr. Oz, Dr. Phil, and Rachel Ray, a satellite radio channel a magazine and a website she has also been acting. She will be starring in “The Butler” next year co starring with Forrest Whitaker.
Oprah continues to rank among the most 50 most philanthropic Americans with a lifetime charity total approximated at $400 million. At age 58, it appears that Oprah will not be slowing down anytime soon.

Oprah Taps Tyler Perry to Join the OWN network Producing the Channels’ First Scripted Series
Oprah and Tyler Perry are officially in business. Perry will have the honor and the pressure of creating the first scripted shows for Oprah’s OWN network. Monday he announced that he signed a deal with Oprah to executive produce, write and direct two scripted series for the channel.
Oprah was singing the praises of Tyler, similar to the way she hailed Rosie before Rosie’s show crashed and burned on OWN,
“I have been looking forward to the day when we would be in the position to enter the world of scripted television. That day has come. We are all energized by the opportunity to collaborate with Tyler who has a proven track record for producing highly successful cable series. He has an incredible ability to illuminate life stories and characters in his unique voice and inspires and encourages people all over the world.”
I’m not sure if I would call either “House of Payne” or “Meet the Browns” quality, or highly successful, but they were at least on cable.
Perry was equally as complimentary to Oprah,
“It’s a dream realized to partner with Oprah and bring scripted programming to OWN. She has accomplished so much with the network and I’m excited to work with her to be a part of its continued growth.”
Perry is a smart man. Do you remember when he gave Oprah and Gayle matching Bentley’s? He knew what he was doing…even back then.
Just to recap – Gayle told the NY Times,
“I called Tyler and told him how amazing that was because nobody ever does anything like that for her, on such a grand scale,” King said. “And so, the next day when I got home, there was a Bentley in my driveway!”
After someone gives you and your bestie matching Bentley’s, how can you say no to a show or two on your own network? Well played Mr. Perry…..Well played indeed.
OH – in case you were wondering, two Bentley’s is chump change. Tyler Perry has a net worth of $400 Million.
