Oprah – Jumping the Shark to Save OWN. Miami Heat the Latest Newsmakers to Get Interviewed.
When I say jumping the shark, I’m not sure if that is entirely fair. But it’s no fluke that Oprah has gone from interviewing living legends such as Sean Penn, Steven Tyler & Joel Osteen to 50 Cent, Carrie Underwood, Kim Kardashian and now the Miami Heat.
A LITTLE MORE ON THE HEAT…
LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh agreed to be on Oprah’s next chapter and in typical “Next Chapter” fashion, Oprah came to them, meeting them at the American Airline’s Arena. After the parade on Monday Oprah started being the annoying mom figure and blowing up her twitter with pictures of in the process of the interview, her holding up the NBA Finals trophy as well as a photo of herself with the Big Three. She then tweeted,
“Hangin with the guys! – Wore my highest heels and still felt short.”
IS THE STRATEGY WORKING
Yes, Oprah’s strategy is working indeed. Everyone just wanted and needed, more Oprah. Mix that with some guests that are actually making daily headlines and you can’t lose. The 2nd part of the 2 Part Kardashian interview set OWN’s record for the 3rd highest rated broadcast in OWN’s history bringing in 1.2 million viewers. Joel Osteen brought in 1.6 million viewers and Whitney Houston’s daughter brought in 3.5 million.
A lot of the changes that Oprah has put in place, including giving Rosie the boot appears to be working and working well. The network just had its second quarter in a row where it’s experienced double digit growth. Primetime viewership has increased 10% and daily viewers are up 31% . Oprah just might be able to pull this thing off.

Sean Penn Raises $2 Million Dollars for Haiti after he Lashes Out at the Media for Lack of Support
Sean Penn loves Haiti just as much as Wyclef Jean! Two years after the devastating earthquake, many of us have forgotten the pictures and video of just how much damage had been done. Penn has not.
Just hours before putting on the fund raiser Penn went on record blasting the media for basically not continuing to provide a spotlight on Haiti’s troubles, He ranted,
“It’s not only celebrities who went for a day, It’s the whole fucking world. It’s all of you.
The reason we have Haiti fatigue is because there was never a commitment in the first place.”
He also encouraged Obama to meet with their newly elected president Michel Joseph Martelly,
“It’s time our elegant and formidable president stood side by side” with the new president in Haiti,
Penn then walked his talk by using the Cannes Film Festival to remind people and raise money. He put on an event called “Carnival in Cannes Gala for Hatian Relief”. It raised over $2 Million dollars.
Part of the event was an auction where some “not so common” things went up for sale. Three spots for A three day trip to Haiti with Sean Penn himself took in over $128,000 each, totaling $384,000.000.
One of Bono’s guitars went for $215,000!
Although the bidders names were kept anonymous, for an event that didn’t have anything to do with movies, it brought in some heavy hitters: Gerard Butler, Diane Kruger, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, Ewan McGregor, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tom Hardy, Robert De Niro, Sean Combs, and Harvey Weinstein. Looking at that list $2 Million is chump change!
I say kudos to Penn for all his work and effort with Haiti and fund raising, but the criticism and rants only accelerate his unpopularity. You can’t criticize the entire media and yell at the world because they don’t’ support the same causes that you do. Well you can, but then you come off as an irritating douche that people give money to just so you can shut the “F” up. Not to say that Haiti support is not important, but there are local disasters such as people still being homeless years later from Hurricane Katrina that are fighting for our medias attentions. Last time I checked, cursing and criticizing were not in the checklist of methods on how to raise money.

Oprah Visits Senn Penn in Haiti for her New Show
Oprah is hard at work in efforts to save two things in dire straits, Haiti and her network! She flew into Haiti to interview Sean Penn to discuss the work that he is doing in Haiti with his group J/P HRO.
After flying into Haiti a week after the earthquake Sean Penn has decided that helping there is something that needs to be a longer term effort.
Sean will be featured on Oprah’s new show “The Next Chapter”. Oprah told reporters,
‘This is part of the next chapter, going around the world to see interesting and fascinating cases of profound examples of what can be done to make a difference in the world,’
OPRAH TO MEET WITH SWEET MICKY
The President of Haiti, Michel Martelly will meet with Oprah today in hope of getting additional support from the mega superstar for his country. The president known in the music world of Haiti as Sweet Micky plans to tour to raise money for education and is soliciting Oprah’s support,
‘We would take the tour to Los Angeles, Korea, Japan, France to raise money for the children’s education,’
‘I will get on it and dance and have great groups of entertainers to perform to help Haiti, including Wyclef Jean and Oprah and have others play my music and sing my songs.
TIGHT SECURITY
As you can imagine the crime rate in Haiti I high so security was tight. Photographer Lionel lafortune wasn’t so fortunate. He was covering the story when guards snatched him up and dragged him into a small police camp where he was forced to erase the photos that he took on his camera.
Once a senior official arrived and Lafortune was identified as a repoter for the newspaper Haiti Progress he was released and allowed to handle his business.

OWN Reveals Release Date for New show, “Oprah’s Next Chapter”
The Big “O” is ready to pull another rabbit out of her hat. What the viewers want, and what they need is more Oprah and she is answering the call. On January 1st 2012 Oprah will be launching “Oprah’s Next Chapter”.
Does it sound like the old Oprah Show? Oprah thinks not. She says,
“After 25 years I got myself out of the studio chairs. I moved into the next chapter, and I am having more fun than ever – moving around the country and the world talking to people I’m really interested in getting to know and I think viewers will be, too,”
The first episode which will air one year after the launch of the network will feature the flamboyant Steven Tyler. Oprah will tour the American Idol judges New Hampshire house, Cribs Style, and find out what makes the crazy Tyler Tick.
When she says “not sitting on chairs” she is implying that the show will feature many of the interviews on location with newsmakers, celebrities, and though leaders.
Through the power of the “O” she has already signed on several A listers: Tony Robbins, Deepak Chopra, Sean Penn, George Lucas and Paula Deen.
Don’t get too hyped up, this Oprah show will only run once a week, on Sunday. Let’s hope with Gayle leaving that this is the boost that Oprah needs. I would be surprised if OWN is around in 2014.

Senn Penn Says Tea Party Should be called the get the ‘N’ word out of the White House Party [video]
As election time comes closer stars are starting to speak up and they are not holding back. Most recently Sean Penn was on Piers Morgan Tonight and he was blunt:
“You have what I call the get the ‘N’ word out of the White House party, the Tea Party, this kind of sensibility, which is much more of a distraction. .. At the end of the day, there’s a big bubble coming out of their head saying, you know, can we just lynch him?”
Penn also criticizes Obama basically saying that he’s holding and should really say what’s going on
“I would love to see Barack Obama be Bulworth. I’d love to see what I’ve always wanted to see, somebody run as a one term President and show me that people aren’t stupid. They do care about each other. And when he does the right things and takes on the controversies, he’s going to win the next election.”
My speculation is that Obama doesn’t do that because that would just give critics something else to hang him with. Despite the criticism Penn said he is still an Obama supporter. Here is the clip:

51 year old Sean Penn is looking super tight! I guess the exercise is paying off, not to mention he has to keep up with his new girlfriend Shannon Costello.
Or she has to keep up with him…she was photographed trying to keep up.
Penn’s swag is at an all time high as he dumps Scarlett Jo to date another 26 year old. 51 is the new 30!!
