GMA Host Robin Roberts After Bone Marrow Transplant Surgery

Robin Roberts Bone Marrow Transplant is A Done Deal!

Robin Roberts had her bone marrow transplant on Thursday and it was a star studded affair.

Before she went under the knife, Roberts left a video message for her fans thanking them for their support.

“This journey is as much about the mind as it is the body,” she said. “You have to change the way you think in order to change the way you feel. … I feel the love, and I think you for it. Thank you.”

Diane Sawyer was there along with Sam Champion and a slew of her friends and family.  You couldn’t tell who was who because they were all wearing Doctor’s masks.  The actual procedure itself only took five minutes.

When it was done, everyone got the place rocking by singing, “Aint No Mountain High Enough”.

Meanwhile back in the studio, GMA continued to use Robin’s illness to put the Smack Down on NBC “The Today Show”.  This morning they had Robin’s doctor, Dr. Gail Roboz on the show and she gave a status update. The info that everyone was waiting for,

“This morning, she sounds energized and she wants to be out of bed and the end of the e-mail was, ‘I want to go home’ with an exclamation point,”

Recovery from such a surgery usually leaves one without appetite, fatigued and extremely sensitive to smells causing headaches and nausea.  Roberts will be monitored daily to see if the transplanted cells are taking.  She should start showing significant signs of recovery in 10 days.

If GMA stumbles in the ratings while Roberts is gone it will only be temporary because when she returns, it will be one of the highest rated morning shows in history.

Robin Roberts Checks In as She Prepares for Bone Marrow Transplant

Robin Roberts is my girl!  After the death of her mom, she fell somewhat quiet but not too quiet.  This Thursday is the big morning.  She gets her bone marrow transplant.  Just in case you were on another planet over the last few months, Robin Roberts was diagnosed with myelodypastic syndrome which is a rare blood disorder that affects the bone marrow.  This is why the bone marrow transplant is necessary.  In preparation for the surgery she has undergone chemotherapy.

On her blog, Roberts posted,

“So today is my last day of chemo, Wednesday is called a day of rest, yay, right! The transplant is scheduled for Thursday morning.”

Roberts sister Sally-Ann will be the donor as the two were are a perfect match.

Roberts still has a lot of fight in her although the Chemotherapy treatment hit her body hard.  She admitted,

“The start of last week went well but the daily chemo/treatment caught up to me by the weekend. My body is so weak but not my mind.”

Roberts had a party to last Sunday at her apartment to lift her spirits, the picture above was taken from that joyous occasion.

With just one day away, get your prayers and best wishes lined up because Robin will need and appreciate them all.   You can follow her progress via her blog: Robin Roberts Blog (12)
