Catherine Zeta-Jones Back in Rehab

Another day, another celebrity checking in to rehab. The beautiful actress Catherine Zeta-Jones has apparently entered a treatment facility for a 30-day program for “maintenance.” TMZ was first to report the news and they talked with a source close to Jones who wanted to make it clear that the 43-year-old did not have a relapse. She’s entering the program for proactive treatment, “it’s maintenance” the source said. So, I guess that the rehab decision was completely her choice.

Some of you may remember that the Academy Award winning actress first went to rehab back in 2011. A spokesperson for Jones at the time said,

“(Catherine) made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II disorder.”

So, one would assume that she is being treated for same thing this time. She only stayed for five days back in 2011, but the stay in rehab appeared to be beneficial. At the time, her stressful life was cited as the cause for her needing rehab. Her publicist said back then,

“After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check into a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her bipolar II disorder. She’s feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on two upcoming films.”

Some of the stress probably comes from her husband’s battle with throat cancer. As most of you know, she is married to actor Michael Douglas who announced he had the advanced stages of throat cancer. He made a very shocking appearance on David Letterman’s late night talk show back in 2010. He announced to Letterman and the crowd that he had stage IV throat cancer, which is the most advanced stage. Douglas said it was probably from a life of stress, alcohol abuse and years of heavy smoking.

He had to undergo intense treatment for six straight months. He lost 32lbs during that time and had to be put on a special weight gain diet to gain his strength and weight back. The treatment did appear to work, though. Doctors announced that he was “cancer free” back in the early part of 2011.

It was clear that his battle with cancer really took a toll on Jones. In September of 2010, Catherine had a very public meltdown at the Ryder Cup Welcome to Wales concert. Catherine agreed to speak at the event months before her husband was diagnosed with cancer. She ended up having to attend to the event by herself and she just couldn’t keep it together. She broke down in tears when she started to talk about him to the crowd full of 13,000 plus.

It certainly has been a rough past few years for both Douglas and Jones. We certainly wish them the best in their road to recovery!
