Was Whoopi Goldberg Forced to Reverse Position on Bill Cosby to Keep Her Job at The View? (Video)
As the last remaining person from the new line up of “The View”, Goldberg’s job is on the line every day. Most recently she has been taking a lot of heat from social media and the media at large for defending Bill Cosby during the most recent rape accusations and drugging admissions. At times, Whoopi’s support of Bill has overshadowed the rape story itself. Most recently Jon Oliver did an entire segment on his HBO show, “Last Week Tonight”, dedicated to Whoopi and her history of supporting controversial figures.
After coming under such brutal attack, she dug in her heels and continued to support the comedian. During one episode earlier this month, she launched into a tirade telling everyone to back off. She said,
He has not been proven a rapist.
It’s my opinion, and the American courts agree with me because still he has not been taken to jail or tried on anything. So back off me!
As a Disney owned show that is supported by a demographic and studio audience that is overwhelmingly female, Whoopi supporting a person accused of rape can only hurt the show’s ratings, not to mention advertisers who cater to the woman biased consumer base. Think about it – would you want your product that is made for women to be sponsoring a show that supports what the public is seeing as a notorious, repeat rapist? Public opinion is ALL that advertiser care about and gauge the success of how effective their advertising is.
Not to mention, ratings of the show are already down 16% from this time last year, “The View” doesn’t need any additional help in sinking lower.
We say that Whoopi’s recanting of her view was not only fake but forced. In attempts to continue working with Whoopi and out of respect for the 59 year old comedian, the show decided to give her an out. They had chief legal analyst, Dan Abrams come on the show and explain to Whoopi what “statute of limitations” means by law and how they apply to rape cases.
The stage was set up as a faux (in my opinion) Q&A session between Abrams and Whoopi. Abrams explained sat politely and patiently and answered the questions that he was expecting Whoopi to ask. He said,
It is impossible to ignore the consistency of these stories; as practical matter, the remedy against Bill Cosby is the court of public opinion. It’s the pressure; it’s the pulling of his TV shows, it’s the ridicule.
Whoopi sat there and pretended to take it all in. As if she was learning something new or hearing this information for the first time. She then pretended to be newly enlightened and suddenly changed her opinion,
You got a serial rapist, he’s been on the streets for 30 years. I thought, ‘Here’s all the information. Take his ass to jail.’ I find out from you that that’s not possible…So, I can’t say any more ‘innocent until proven guilty’.
WHY IS THIS FAKE?
Simply because Whoopi knew all of this before. She is on a nationally syndicated show and this is a topic that has been discussed at length on the show since the story first emerged. All of the details Abrams revealed has been discussed, debated and known for months. Whoopi and Rosie O’donell has had heated exchanges over the “statute of limitations”. The whole entire segment was an attempt so that Whoopi can save her job and save face.
Alas, Whoopi decided it was best to save her job instead of going down for a friend who quite frankly is probably guilty. She could lose her job and then tomorrow, Cosby can admit his guilt. She is defending him more than he is defending himself. It appears she has come to her senses.
DID IT WORK? WILL WHOOPI KEEP HER JOB?
If advertisers continue to support “The View” after this reversal then Whoopi will keep her job, if not, expect Whoopi to be the next person on The View’s hit list.
Watch the segment – you tell me. Is Whoopi being honest in her view reversal?
At 8:40, Rosie tells Whoopi that the statute of limitations is over. So when Whoopi says that she thought rape was opened ended, she was full of it. Like I said, the entire Q&A set up was phony. I guess you are only allowed to have a “View” if it’s the same one as everyone else.
